Botox Vs Juvederm

Botox injections Las Vegas NV

The field of cosmetic surgery has exploded in popularity particularly due to instagram and other social media outlets. Wrinkles and fine lines are an inevitable part of the process of aging. This can potentially ruin our self image and esteem. This is especially true when the signs of aging occur prematurely. For fast results, botox vs juvederm treatments can be used quickly and easily to make you look and feel younger.

They can reverse facial aging signs leaving you looking naturally younger and attractive. More and more people are undertaking steps to make themselves look and feel younger. What if there was a treatment to do that in a non permanent way? Well there is with Botox Cosmetic and Juvederm. Below we will explain the differences of Botox Vs Juvederm.

Is Juvederm the same as Botox?

No! Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler. It works by reducing the appearance of aging very differently. Juvederm essentially “fills in” wrinkles. This filling in minimizes the appearance of mild to severe wrinkles and folds on the face. The Juvederm formulation also allows it to add volume to different areas of the face as needed, correcting age-related volume loss that many patients experience as they reach middle-age.

Botox injections have very different anti-aging properties. As an active neurotoxin, it can interrupt nerve signals to muscle groups where injected. Botox can reduce the appearance of aging from the inside out, reducing facial wrinkles caused by repetitive facial expressions. This will include crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles.

Botox Cosmetic

Botox (or botox cosmetic) is a safe form of botulinum toxin A. This neurotoxin causes botulism. Botox injections will paralyze the facial muscles in that area temporarily. This will prevent the muscles from creating deep wrinkles, crow’s feet around the eyes, or frown lines. Wrinkles occur in 3 different ways:

-lack of collagen in skin.

-changes at cellular level as we age.

-environmental changes like exposure to the sun.

Botox actually has many uses beyond a cosmetic one. These can include:

-treatment for excessive sweating.

-teeth clenching.

-treatment for overactive bladder.

treatment for chronic migraine pain.

-Temperomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder.

How Is A Botox Procedure Completed?

The botox injections are very quick and easy. It can be completed in as little as a few minutes and does not require anesthesia (but can use numbing cream or ice packs to lessen discomfort). An extremely fine needle is used to inject the botox  into the specific muscles. There will be slight discomfort from the botox injection.
Most patients report it takes about a week for the full effects of the Botox to take hold. The effects will last about 3-4 months. The lines will gradually return but with repeated treatments the muscles will start to train and wrinkles will be lessened. Temporary bruising in the area of injection is the most common side effect of botox.

How Is A Juvederm Procedure Completed?

What Could I Expect from a Procedure?

Juvederm is a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment performed right in our office. Juvederm is an injectable treatment that has the ability to reduce the appearance of unwanted lines and wrinkles. It is able to achieve this by restoring lost natural volume to the skin and lips. Juvederm (also called wrinkle fillers) can also be used as “volumizers,” plumping and lifting cheeks, chins, jawlines, and temples, and filling out thin lips.
The injection is similar to Botox cosmetic but Juvederm contains a local anesthetic to reduce pain and discomfort. As a dentist we have the ability to numb your mouth area to reduce pain and discomfort further. Juvederm provides results up to a year. Side effects are rare but can include redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. Results from Juvederm can be seen as a more youthful appearance almost immediately.

Who Can Use Juvederm and Botox?

Juvederm and Botox are safe for most people to use, but some people should delay or avoid these esthetic treatments.

  • You should avoid all esthetic injectables if you are pregnant or nursing. Safety for these groups has not been established yet.
  • The presence of a skin rash or infection in any potential treatment area means you should delay having injectable treatments until your skin heals.
  • People with allergies should avoid having injectable treatments.
  • Avoid JUVÉDERM if you have a known allergy to gram-positive bacterial proteins.
  • If you have an albumin allergy, you should avoid Botox.

Treatment Side Effects

Both of these injectables are minimally invasive treatments with little to no downtime. You should be able to return to work right away and resume most of your everyday activities. However, if you have Juvederm, you do need to avoid the following for the first 24 hours:

  • Consumption Of Alcohol
  • Exposure to the sun or heat
  • Activity that causes you to sweat
  • Exercise

Following the above precautions will help to reduce the side effects of the treatment.

Both types of injections can cause minor side effects. These include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Pain or discomfort at injection sites

These side effects are typically mild and temporary.

If any side effects occur:

With Botox, they last up to a week.

Juvederm dermal fillers side effects tend to last longer; they may persist for two to four weeks.

Before you begin treatment, it is essential to ask for a complete list of any possible side effects that may develop.

Are Juvederm Dermal Fillers safer than Botox?

Both Juvederm and Botox are FDA-approved. They work to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds on the face. Both are incredibly safe and effective when administered by a well trained, experienced injector. Botox has also been approved for several medical uses.

However, both procedures can have risks with an inexperienced injector. Medical spas or “Botox parties” have become a popular source for cosmetic injectables, offering discounted prices for treatment. These environments often administer treatment without the close oversight of a licensed medical professional. This can lead to severe side effects with both Juvederm and Botox. Severe side effects include allergic reactions, vision impairment, paralysis, and toxicity.

For this reason, we recommend that you only receive Juvederm and Botox injectables from an experienced, certified injector, such as Dr. Marielaina Perrone DDS. Only an expert licensed professional can provide you with the safety and excellent esthetics results that you deserve.

Which is the better choice, Botox or Juvederm?

Both have distinctive anti-aging properties. Botox and Juvederm are tailored best to treat different wrinkle types and esthetic signs of aging.

Can You Use Botox and Juvederm Together?

Botox and Juvederm are often combined to help target both dynamic and static wrinkles. These range from mild to severe wrinkles and folds for optimal rejuvenation of the face. Each can target different face areas to reverse and prevent signs of aging.

Botox is excellent for treating wrinkles, such as:

  • crow’s feet

  • frown lines

  • forehead wrinkles

Juvederm is a perfect choice to reduce wrinkles through volume correction. Juvederm can also help limit volume loss in the cheek areas, under the eyes, and in the lips. It is also an excellent choice to reduce the appearance of deeper facial wrinkles and folds such as:

  • nasolabial folds (commonly known as “smile lines”)

  • marionette lines (lines under the lips along the chin)

  • perioral lines (also known as vertical lip lines or “lipstick lines”)

  • lip augmentation

Juvederm is perfect for wrinkles that are present when your face is resting, whereas Botox is perfect for wrinkles that appear upon movement. Your dentist will be able to go into greater detail on what would be the right treatment for you based on your cosmetic appearance and your desires for treatment.

How do you know which injectable treatment is right for you?

When it comes to injectables, it will depend on the patient’s individual needs and esthetic desires. If interested in reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, Botox is the best choice for you. Each has several customized hyaluronic acid filler products designed to target different areas of the face and different types of wrinkles. Restylane typically has a slightly lower per-unit price and somewhat lower durability than Juvederm. Both dermal filler lines are excellent at correcting various fine lines, wrinkles, and folds and correcting volume on the midface and lips.
